Moving House Planner is undertaking consultancy work with Care homes who are either in Special Measures or want to improve their Care Quality Commission rating. This new direction happened as a result of talking to Care Home owners when helping people move into care homes. Many small homes do not have separate staff members who deal with compliance and as such struggle with the required paperwork.
I have a background in Audit work in housing and these skills are transferable to Care homes.
Many audit services use the The Key Lines of Enquiry as detailed on the Care Quality Commission website. Care homes are assessed against the five standards of :
SAFE, EFFECTIVE, CARING ,RESPONSIVE and WELL LED- these questions are broken down into other questions known as KLOE’ so that the CQC can check compliance. e,g the SAFE standard looks at how medicines are given , maintenance of the building .This check is to ensure that vulnerable people ‘s risk is minimal.
Care Home staff can sometimes struggle with explaining the governance of the organisation. Many Registered Managers are often “hands on” which sometimes causes difficulty explaining how they provide strategic leadership. Moving House Planner analysis of the CQC Inspections shows this to be a common problem.
